Le printemps dans l’hémisphère nord, c'est la saison du renouveau de la nature, du retour des oiseaux migrateurs et du réveil des animaux hibernants. Jusqu'au XVIe siècle, l'année commençait non pas en janvier mais au mois de mars et, ce faisant, le printemps en était la toute première saison. D'où son nom apparu au XIIe siècle : « prins tans », le premier temps.

Spring in the northern hemisphere is the season of nature's renewal, the return of migratory birds and the awakening of hibernating animals. Until the 16th century, the year began not in January but in March, and so spring was the very first season. Hence its name, first coined in the 12th century: "prins tans", the first season.
